Not many people are aware that years ago parents would sleep with their baby, or babies, in bed with them. This was once the norm, although in Western culture it has become more common for children to sleep away from their parents.

Although the family bed, or co-sleeping as it is also known, remains the cultural norm in some parts of the world, in the Western world it is not seen as a normal practice. However, it is gradually resurfacing and more and more families are choosing to share their bed with their baby.

There are some benefits of the family bed, especially for breastfeeding mothers. Sharing a bed with their newborn makes breastfeeding much simpler, and in turn the mother is able to get more sleep. Many parents have claimed that they themselves sleep better and for longer when they have their baby beside them, knowing they are safe.

Your baby will always know you are there and if you work during the day, co-sleeping can provide valuable time to spend with your child. There have also even been some physicians who suggest that sharing a bed with your baby may protect them against Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

If you do choose to sleep with your baby in bed with you for any period of time, it is imperative that you follow safe bedding practices. You should never sleep on the couch or on a waterbed with your baby, as the bed mattress you sleep on should always be firm, flat and clean.

Make sure to avoid your baby overheating by dressing them lightly and not covering them with blankets or quilts. Face your baby when you sleep with them to prevent them from falling out of bed. There should be no gap between the mattress and the wall that the baby could fall or get stuck down.

You should definitely avoid sleeping with your baby if you or your partner may have slow reactions to the baby if it is in distress, for example if you have drunk alcohol or are taking medication. If you are too tired, whether naturally or artificially, you may lose awareness of the baby in your bed, risking suffocation.

The railings on your head and foot boards should have spacer no wider that 40mm, the size of those allowed in safety approved cots. Gaps any bigger could become places the baby may become trapped and suffocate. If you or someone else in the bed has long hair, it should be tied back as this could become wound around the baby’s neck and pose a strangulation risk.

You can have lots of fun when it comes to decorating home bedrooms for a toddler. You want to decorate to the toddlers likes, at this age they understand what “mine” means. You should get a twin size bed instead of using the cute toddler beds. The crib mattress you use on a toddler bed does not give the support for your toddlers growing bones.

Besides that, this bed will last for years so you won’t have to invest in another bed in only a couple of years. Remember that favorite colors change during the toddler years. You can buy furniture that is light in color or white, that has hardware and knobs that are replaceable so you can change color of these easily.

You will definitely want to get lots of storage space while besides the storing of toys it will make more play space. A great idea to accomplish this is using a wall storage along with a desk that is built-in. Using the open cubes for this is best with having removable storage bins.

The bins can be taken to where the mess is. Placing pictures on the bins will help the toddler to know where the toys go and organization.Home bedroom ideas for a toddler are endless. Your child probably has a favorite character from movies and television. You do not want to make the whole room full of that character. Try two pieces and decorate around them. Try the peel then stick mural, and decorate the room with the colors from them.
